Pepsi in £2.4bn deal with Russia

PEPSI splashed out £2.4BILLION on a Russian drinks firm just FOUR HOURS before the World Cup vote was announced.

The US soft drinks giant bought a controlling stake in Russia’s Wimm-Bill-Dann in its biggest ever overseas deal.

The timing will raise yet more eyebrows given Russia’s success in the Fifa vote. Many think the result was decided BEFORE the delegates even entered the room.

Pepsi chief Indra Nooyi said: “This gives us clear leadership in the food and beverage industry in Russia.”

Wimm-Bill-Dann traces its roots back to the fall of the Soviet Union in 1991.

Founders Pavel Dudnikov and Vladimir Tambov chose the name because it sounded like the Wimbledon Tennis Championships.

The company makes J7, Russia’s most popular juice drink and Vesely Molochnik, which translates as Happy Milkman.
