Austin Trip

This post has been pending for almost a year, I really don’t know why I haven’t post it till now.

I’m not really a big fan of U.S and Canada, they are big cities with no easy transportation, you would need either a car or to use a lot of taxis, there aren’t city centers were you can spend all your day at it and to get by by walking. Any way I’m more used to European city styles.

At my last trip to U.S, i’ve went to Austin, Texas. I’ve been to Houston, Texas before which I didn’t like that much and thought Austin would be the same, but it wasn’t. I was really impressed with it, nice and friendly people all around and such a cool city.

During my visit, there was a music festival at the city, Austin was partying all weekend, you walk from live gig to another in the 6th Street, music of all kind everywhere, all of that at walking distance ; I think that is why I liked Austin, I didn’t need a car often. You can roam around, between bars, restaurants, shops and even cigar lounges.

Then there was so many variety of restaurants and food, and it’s not only the food, the genuineness of the restaurants was amazing, I really enjoyed that. You can download this guideline [here] for more info.

I’m not a morning person, but because I don’t have much time for the first few days, I used to wake up early around 5 am and head to IHOP for breakfast. It was the first time I eat in a U.S IHOP, and what a great food they served, I had best Spanish omelet ever, it was so tasty that I kept going there for a week.

It wasn’t all food and music, I did some sight scenes and went to Austin river. There were many kayaks and canoes renting booths which temped me to try a kayak for the first time, it was such a nice and relaxing experience, the calmness of the water, the greenery and all the little creatures from turtles to birds put you in perfect state of mind. I just can’t wait to do something similar again.

A couple of days later, I went to my cousin in San Antonia,Texas were I didn’t like it much, so I went back to Austin and rented the famous Texas airstream trailer from airbnb, I’ve stayed a couple of days only before I got back to Kuwait and I wished I could stayed much longer.

Airbnb offers amazing accommodations with the nicest people. I stayed with a lesbian couple at a genuine Texas home in a trailer they have at their backyard, it was like a small barn. It was one of the best and amazing places I’ve stayed in, it beat’s any 5 stars hotel.

In over all, if you are going to U.S, make sure to visit Austin. And personal if there are any cities (in U.S) I would go back and visit it would be Las Vegas and Austin.
