I’ve been a loyal customer to OSN for many many year, I almost have Showtime/OSN for 17 years and more and never thought I would watch tv with it, but its been a while thinking to cancel my OSN, I simply don’t have the time to watch live tv anymore, and when I record my films and shows I still have to watch them with the decoder.
Since 2013 I’ve been paying almost 30+ KD every month and as I never had any alternatives I was more than happy to pay whatever they ask, but since last year and with the emergence of Netflix, Amazon Videos and iTunes I had more options and alternatives for my entertainment, now I can see more with a lot cheaper price.
I made up my mind and called them to downgrade, but with every operator I talk to he/she try to talk me out of it, but never caved, I simply don’t want to pay too much for live tv without utilizing it. Even OSN Play, isn’t friendly to use, you have to sign in every time you use it, there isn’t much content available and you can’t use it abroad. So OSN was over for me, and for that I request a downgrade.
But few hours later, I received a call from OSN offering me a discount rate for my package, but I don’t want to pay over the odds for something I don’t use, and with more that 20 min on the phone with the operator I got a good deal for my current package and still can downgrade it later if I feel like it.
OSN is great network, but with the new ways and app of on demand entertainment they have to rethink their strategy. They recently did change their packages and offers more options but still I think those on demand app are the future and more powerful.
Almost a week ago Amazon Video launched in 200 counties around the world and Kuwait is one of them.
Almost a year ago it was Netflix who went global and just like Netflix, Amazon Video is starting with limited materials, very limited material.
Comparing between Netflix and Amazon Video starting content, Netflix started with a great show Narcos but Amazon got nothing prime to kick start their global launch.
There are very very few shows and with only two star shows The Man in High castle and Seinfeld, and there are little more movies than shows. This is Kuwait region of course, and I think with time just like Netflix, Amazon Video gallery will grow bigger.
In terms of price, Amazon Video promotion offer is $2.99 + tax per month for the first 6 months then it will be $5.99 + tax per month, it is less than Netflix prices of $8, $10 and $12 per month. Also Amazon Video trial period (7 days) is much shorter than Netflix (30 days).
Interface and app integration for Amazon Video, for me it feels little outdated and looks tacky, it still works fine and you still can find their app for Smart TV and other platforms.
I don’t think I will renew my Amazon Video after my 7 days trial, I will wait few months before I subscribe again maybe by then their gallery grows more, because as it is now, it is very poor, I can watch all it content in the 7 days trial.
I’ve been going to Dubai a lot lately, mainly business trips and this time I went to check the new IMAX LASER system, its the first IMAX laser projectors installed in the region, and it’s been open since September 2015 at Mall of the Emirates.
And since I work in bigfarme industry, I made some calls and did some arrangements to see the projectors and how it work. VOX was very generous and accommodating for my request, I really want to thank them for their genuine hospitality.
We’ve taken a tour private tour to see the projector room, and asked a lot of questions which they answered gladly.
After a very informative Q&A with the projectionist we went back to the theater to watch Kings of Egypt 3D. Beside it’s good film and I don’t think it will be screened in Kuwait due to censorship. The film presentation in 3D is just amazing. Usually I hate 3D films because many of them aren’t meant to be in 3D and/or the projector’s system is so poor therefor there are a lot of ghosting in the picture.
IMAX laser system has prefect picture, not only I felt that, but also my two friends who were watching the film felt the same. They never liked 3D because they think it causes headache and usually its has shitty image, but they were very impressed with IMAX laser 3D.
So, from now on if I want to watch a 3D film I will only watch it in IMAX laser projectors. It’s really impressive system.

Journey to Space 3D is to be release next weekend 7th Jan 2016 at IMAX The Scientific Center.
This film marked a return of space films and set to be the fourth space film to be played in IMAX The Scientific Center the other two was SPACE STATION, HUBBLE & SPACE JUNK.
Journey To Space puts into historical context the magnificent contributions made by the Space Shuttle program and its intrepid space pioneers. It uses the most spectacular space footage – including unique views of Earth and operations in space – such as deploying and repairing the Hubble Space Telescope. It then goes on to show how the Shuttle launched and assembled the International Space Station (ISS). Together, these programs have taught us how to live, build and conduct science in space. The ISS will continue operating in space until 2024, and the film shows how it is building a foundation for the next giant leaps into space.
The film concludes with a fascinating, realistic scenario of how astronauts will actually get to Mars, live there for long duration, and then return home after a two-and-a-half-year mission.

I’m a big big fan of Star Wars and I know there are so many of us. I wanted to watch the film abroad, somewhere were they don’t have censorship, but i’ve been traveling a lot lately and can’t take anymore leaves 🙁 .. So I decided to watch it in Kuwait. But where in Kuwait?
Grand Cinema and Cinescape are mostly showing STAR WARS in 3D and only have limited 2D shows. For me I prefer 2D.
Thanks to a good friend, he told me SKY Cinema are showing STAR WARS in 2D, compared between 3 cinemas. SKY Cinema have the most available seats.
I never been to SKY Cinema, but been told that are great. Looking forward to watch STAR WARS EPISODE VII.
وصلني في الواتس اب تصوير من داخل طيارة الجزيره القادمة من دبي يوم السبت وقت هبوطها في مطار الكويت اثناء العاصفة الترابية ..
It makes you feel good to see there are balance in this world. Just last week I saw “NightCrawler” which show the media at it ugliest and just now I watched on OSN “Kill the messenger” which shows true devotion to expose truth no matter what, two sides of the same coin.
“Kill the messenger” based on true story, an anti-CIA film where tells the story of journalist Gary Webb exposing the CIA dealing in drug trafficking in America and sponsoring Nicaraguan rebels, only to end with a coverup from CIA.
~ Looking more into this story through the internet. I found more alleged coverup stories by the CIA, one was that Monica Lewinsky scandal was all staged to setup Bill Clinton just to get off people attention. There are more and more stories, If you are interested on alleged story cover up by CIA watch this [Youtube clip].
Back to the film, It was good film to watch and great performance by Jeremy Renner.
Last night was invited to attend Film Review organized by Kuwait Cine Club and hosted by National Library of Kuwait featuring special guest Mr Farouq AbdulAziz.
It was my first time to visit National Library of Kuwait. It’s such a great facility, really neat and have really good library with great collection of books, definitely I will visiting again to read some.
The night started with small introduction of Mr. Farouq AbdulAziz followed by few remarks on writing scenarios and scripts and afterward they started the film Night Crawler.
It was good pick, I really enjoyed the film, but i enjoyed Mr. Farooq review even more.
I grow up watching him on Kuwait tv, showing and reviewing films like the Blues Brothers, The King and I and many other films. Seeing him last night doing what he do best live, really gave me a great pleasure to be there. That was the highlight of eventful night. I hope they do it again.
