Last week was invited to Zafran 1st anniversary in “Light Complex Restaurants”. It’s been a while since i’ve been to an event, thought blowing is dead from the social media.

I went with a friend who enjoy food just like me, as we tried the award-winning contemporary Indian restaurant Zafran a sneak preview of their ‘Regional Flavors of India, a regional curries menu’. There was some entertainment on the night which was provided by a local dance troupe and DJ, it was fun.

From Gosht Vindaloo to Dhaba-style chicken curry and Kerala fish curry inspired by God’s own country, each of the curries is classic and prepared individually using only the most authentic ingredients. Once again vegetarians have not been forgotten.  The menu features dishes such as Rajasthani chakki ki sabzi, a popular gravy curry, Papad Ki Sabzi and Punjabi Baingan Bharta all very local and never been showcased commercially.

“Regional Flavors of India has been conceptualized to take diners on a culinary journey through curries. This menu presents the sheer diversity of Indian cuisine. A great representation of the regions they’re from, each recipe has been subtly enhanced to fit Zafran’s distinctive philosophy and palate, celebrating the subtle and complex flavors of Indian cuisine, yet remaining light on the stomach,” said Chef Gaurav Singh, Brand Chef at Zafran.

اختي عيزت و اهي تحن علي خل نروح مطعم كومار و تقول كل من يسولف عنه ولما يت وقت طلعتنا الاسبوعية ضبطت الفطور هناك ..

المهم ، رحنا وكنا ٥ كبار و ٣ يهال و تقريبا كان المطعم الوحيد الي زحمه قبل الفطور ،،  طلبنا و باقي على الاذان ٢٠ دقيقه تقريبا  بس ما نزل الاكل الا الساعه ٧ ونص ،، يعني تقريبا بعد ساعة و خمس دقايق من وقت ما طلبنا ..

اليهال تذمروا و انا شبعنا من اللبن و السطله و الخدمه كانت شي فاشل من اقوى نوع والمشاريب مو بارده و القرسونات ما يمديك تكلمه الا انحاش يبي يسكتك و بس ..

نيي علي الاكل ، الاكل كان عادي مافي شي غير عن باجي المطاعم الهنديه. طلبنا سمبوسه و سلطه بط (علشان حاط جم سترب بط سعرها بـ ٥ ونص)  و برياني لحم و برياني دياي الا ان عادي جدا .. و طلعت الفاتوره  بـ ٨٦ دينار سعر مبالغ فيه وايد.

تجربه فاشله لاكل عادي

Meme’s Curry was once a small business restaurant opened in Alrehab complex in Hawally and now they are booming. Soon they will be opening a second branch in Salmiya at the View complex.

Meme’s Curry, Its not your average restaurant if you go to Hawally branch, but sure it adds an experience to your dinning. They serve home made Japanese curry dishes of chicken and shrimps with noodles and rice. Chefs and service are all Kuwaitis which is great. You’ll see a lot of geeks too.

I usually order fries for starters “It come with curry, chicken and cheese” and Joys meal ” Japanese rice covered with egg omelet under soup of Meme’s Curry and cheese”. They have many options and varieties, but I’m hooked with what I tried the first time. Their food is so addictive that you will crave it everyday.

If you can take some heat, have your orders with chili, it really adds a flavor.

Dubai, always good thing happens there.

I was in very short trip, with no purpose, just wanted a break and I ended up in Dubai Mall looking for Sushi restaurant. There were few, but I wanted premium Japanese cuisine, but unfortunately Katsuya was close and never reopened.

Its ok, I still can have a good time, I have my cigars and I don’t mind any food. I Went outside to the fountain looking for a good spot and cup of coffee, but then there was this new restaurant underneath the renovating Address, It call “Katana” and when I asked it was Japanese restaurant, they still under soft opening.

The food was great and fresh, I had snow crap, octopus, tuna sushi and maki rolls. Totally worth the bill as it wasn’t cheap.

The porch seating was great, nice view of Burj Khalifa, good music, the prefect weather and my cigars it was match made in heaven, I didn’t need to go anywhere.

ps, Fly Dubai can you make your seats any tighter?!? come on give us some space.

Last week I was in LA in a business trip and while almost everyone asked me to bring them stuff, I have this dear friend whom I trust blindly when it comes to food, asked me to check one of the amazing Sushi restaurants, asked me to something for myself and that was deep, so it immediately it was top my todo list.

Once I had a spare time and was really hungry I drove to SUGARFISH by Sushi Nozawa in Santa Monica.

It’s small and very cozy restaurant, maybe could accommodate about 50 seats. Since I was alone I dined on the bar.

They have à la carte and 3 set menu which are, Trust me, trust me lite and special which is same as trust me but with an extra potion of great food.

This restaurant looked very nice, and was recommended but a very highly person so I had to go with the special, and it was

  • Organic Edamame
  • Tuna Sashimi (very yummy)
  • Albacore Sushi
  • Salmon Sushi (so tender so fresh it melt in your mouth)
  • Snapper Sushi
  • Yellowtail Sushi
  • Halibut Sushi
  • Toro hand roll
  • Blue Crab Hand roll Yellowtail hand-roll (Cuz Blue Crap had Mayo)

This set looked too much, and I thought I’m going to be full after this, but also I was so hunger that I wanted to order more, for once I was let me eat and then see if I want more.

The food kept on coming in waves one by one, and they kept just enough time to enjoy every wave of great food. It was really food from heaven.

The Tuna Sashimi comes in marinated in spiced soy sauce and topped with green onion, the balance of is so perfect. Then comes Albacore Sushi, Salmon Sushi and Snapper Sushi, they are serviced with warm rice dipped in spiced soy sauce, ready for you to JUST EAT. They are prefect as they are, you can’t make them better.

The next wave was Yellowtail Sushi, Halibut Sushi and Scallop Sushi and they were more of the same, perfect food, I never have tried some of the food I had ever before but everything was so great that I was eating anything was put infront of me.

Toro and Yellowtail Hand roll, there were more of a sandwiches than usual rolls. I was, how I’m going to eat that with chopsticks?! Well you don’t, you just eat them like sandwiches 🙂

Nozawa

I think this is the best sushi restaurant I’ve been to. I had a sushi meal at LA airport and Maki Kuwait in the last two days and both tasted like garbage compared to SUGARFISH.

I never been to “Burger and Lobster“, but since it’s opened at the Avenues recently i thought to give it a try . I haven’t been to the Avenues for some time anyway.

Burger and Lobster” is located on the upper level at Grand Avenues, just above Texas Roadhouse.

When I reached with my wife, we wanted to sit outside,but it was full so we went inside, as soon as we went in, we smelled a bad odor, I don’t know what it was exactly but it wasn’t a nice smell.

We insisted to sit outside so we waited till there was an empty table, at least there was no smell.

They had a menu of 3 dishes only. You can choose from Burgers , Lobster and Lobster rolls and they all are at the same price. Or you can order shared combo, it have all 3 of them, Burgers, Lobster and Lobster rolls divided into 2 dishes.

The Burgers was good,fat, juicy and taste really good. The Lobster was the best, we ordered it steamed with lemon butter dressing, the Lobster was so tender and delicious that I wanted to have another one.

The Lobster rolls comes with Japanese mayo and i don’t eat any mayo, so it came a bit dry. I used the remaining lemon butter dressing but still it wasn’t that great, it was the least favorite of 3 dishes.

It was good, but nothing special. i won’t miss it much if i don’t eat there again.

في افتتاح تجريبي ، افتتح عبدالله السرهيد الفرع الثاني الجديد لمطعم الشيف الكويتي الكائن في منطقة السالميه شارع سالم المبارك مجمع لولو مول التجاري.

مطعم الشيف الكويتي ، مطعم كويتي ١٠٠٪ يدار من كويتيين و شغل كويتيين .. الشاورما و الخضره و الشغل كله شغل بيت ، يعني شغل نظيف.

من غير مقارنة افضل شاورما بالكويت  .. لازم تجربونة .. انستغرام الشيف الكويتي

Its been a while that I’ve been hunting for good hotdogs and after reading a review on itsafoodworld.com I went to check it out and try their hotdogs.

They have simple menu nothing complicated. I tried the classic hotdog, it was a hotdog sandwich with catchup and mustard only came with a potato bun which isn’t that very classic, it was good, but the bun isn’t.

As for appetizers I went for their best seller “Haute fries” and it was good. The cheese, the fries and the jalapeño were really tasty, but felt it was greasy and I couldn’t eat it all.

The sandwich was light and easily I can eat 2 to 3 of theme, but the fries came in a bigger potion and they are good for two persons I guess. Still not the best hotdog in Kuwait but they have a great location and nice food. Haute are located in Sharq, just opposite of police station.

There is also an indian restaurant next to it. I like the outdoor seating and i think i will go back there again.

I’ve got along my colleague an invitations from Food Fund International to attend The Meat Co. taste-off for their new menu.

The event was different from what I used to attend, it clearly wasn’t a Kuwaiti organizer, but it was good event nonetheless. We met really important and interesting people in The Meat Co. and socialized with the marketing team which I think That’s what events all about.

unnamedWe came under the impression we will be trying the new The Meat Co. menu, but it wasn’t the case. They aren’t changing whole menu, they are only changing dessert and beverages menu and adding new items to the entree. My friend Salah Behbehani will elaborate more ..

Where I s the Main Core!?!

Great welcome; nice seating was next to the dessert display table.

We were welcomed with a nice sour red colored drink; the second drink was amazingly good with a sweet and spicy taste which tangles your taste buds. Both drinks were beautifully presented.

I could not resist the sweet. Nice dessert sampling taste varies between sweetness, saltiness and bitterness you don’t know what you are getting expect next. Except for the Apple crumble was tasteless.

Last was the finger foods, 5 items we tried; for my taste they were ok, not new!

Where is the new menu? I asked. Is it a secret not out yet. Why we were invited!!!?? Where is the main core of The The Meat Co. (ie TheSteak) Maybe next time !!!

The Meat Co. will be having a new menu coming out soon in 360 Mall, they have not exactly have a date but I think it will come up in Eid. I think you should try it.
